Fort Myers offers year-round golf in a tropical paradise

LEE COUNTY, FL –Fort Myers is known for its award-winning beaches, world famous shelling, spectacular sunsets and all the best that Mother Nature has to offer. The area also provides a golf mecca with championship courses and an endless selection of choices available year-round in this tropical paradise. All courses work to protect the area’s wildlife and several have won awards for their commitment to the preservation of the environment. From golf resorts to public municipal courses to exclusive clubs that allow public play, area courses provide opportunities for golfers of all levels.

Fort Myers has an endless list of choices and quality layouts that make golf easily accessible to visitors. Most accommodations in the area will recommend courses and arrange golfing for their guests. Many courses offer club rentals to assist travelers with airline baggage restrictions. Visitors may also select from this extensive list of public courses.

Raptor Bay Golf Club at The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa, Bonita Springs
The first resort course to receive the Audubon International Gold Certification. Designed by golf great Raymond Floyd, the 18-hole course is in harmony with its lush, natural setting. Unique feature: Raptor Bay Golf Club is the first resort golf course in the world to be certified by

Audubon International as a Gold Signature Sanctuary. In the spirit of golf and respect for the land, Raptor Bay captures the essence of nature at its best. Nestled within the resort’s 500-acre property with 22 acres of lakes and more than 200 acres of native vegetation and nature preserves. Each golf hole was carefully crafted to blend with the environment, leaving a beautiful course that accentuates its natural surroundings. With seven sets of tees, this tournament-quality course challenges golfers of all levels.

Unique Feature(s): The course rests on 275 acres of natural preserve and pine trees. It is highly regarded as one of the best in the area, and was listed as a “must play” by Golf Magazine in 2011. The area’s only stand-alone Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. Certified with the Audubon seal of approval, Old Corkscrew Golf Club’s location still reflects its original natural setting, complete with stands of cypress, magnificently tall pines, mature oaks and nesting colonies of  wood storks, egrets and herons, just to name a few. Fewer than two percent of courses around the world have been named a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

Unique Feature(s): Fort Myers Country Club is the oldest facility on the west coast of Florida. Built in the heart of Fort Myers, the club is one mile from the famed Edison & Ford Winter Estates. Both gentlemen enjoyed playing the course in the 1920s.

Golf architect Steve Smyers transformed the course during the $5.8 million project with elevated bunkers and greens. The course received extensive modernization to drainage, turf quality, pro shop and bathroom renovations and operational efficiency.
