Lee County Tourist Development Council welcomes Pendergrass as new chair

December 8, 2021

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – The Lee Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) appointed Commission Chairman Cecil Pendergrass as chair of the Tourist Development Council (TDC). The chairmanship becomes effective immediately.

“I am excited to chair the Tourist Development Council,” Pendergrass said. “Tourism is an economic engine for Lee County and I look forward to working with the VCB to build on current successes.”

Pendergrass, who was named BoCC chairman on Nov. 16, replaces TDC Chairman and Lee County Commissioner Brian Hamman. Pendergrass served previously as TDC Chairman, 2017-2019. He was elected to the BoCC District 2 seat in 2012.

As county commissioner, Pendergrass serves on multiple board and advisories. He also appreciates the importance of preserving and protecting the Florida ecosystem while promoting responsible growth to stimulate the local economy.

Pendergrass, a lifelong Lee County resident, served for 25 years with the City of Fort Myers Police Department. After retirement, he became vice president for Private Asset Management Group, an independent financial asset firm.

Pendergrass and his wife, Jodi, live and raised their two children in Lee County.

The nine-member TDC was established as an advisory board to the BoCC in 1983 to increase off-season tourism in Lee County.
